Working out can be very beneficial especially if you’re doing it to build your muscles and strength. However, it’s also important to remember that taking shortcuts in exercising won’t get you better and faster results. Instead, follow these easy and simple steps to help you maintain your A-game in working out.

  1. Eat All the Right Foods. Eating the right foods is one of the most important factors in making your workout routine more effective. Without the right pre- and post-workout meal, you won’t be able to exercise properly and getting the results that you want may become difficult for you. So before you start working out, fuel your body with carbohydrates-rich foods like a banana or a whole wheat toast. For your post-workout meal, opt for lean poultries like chicken to get iron and zinc, and some baked potatoes to replenish the electrolytes you’ve lost while working out.

  1. Stay Hydrated. Other than eating the right kind of foods, staying hydrated is also important in nourishing your body before working out. As much as possible, drink about eight ounces of water an hour before you start exercising to keep you hydrated while working out. If you can’t stand the bland taste of water, you can infuse it with vegetables and fruits like watermelon and blueberries for an added zing of flavour.

  1. Practise the Correct Exercise Form. A good way to avoid injuries while working out is to exercise using the correct form. When doing squats, make sure that you look straight ahead to avoid hurting your lower back. If you’re doing hip raises, place a cushion between your legs to strengthen your inner-thigh muscles and keep your knees from falling outward. For push-ups, use some hexagonal-shaped dumbbells to relieve pressure on your wrists and hands.

  1. Do Some Stretching. Stretching is one of those extra steps that are quite easy to forget when working out. So take that yoga mat out of your storage, and start performing some stretches to increase your flexibility, help you recover faster and to improve your overall health. Other than that, stretching is also a great way to ease muscle tension and soreness from a hard workout.

  1. Listen to Your Body. Trying out new workout techniques to boost your current routine is good, but remember to take things slow first and listen to how your body reacts to the new technique. Although pushing your body helps in getting better results, it’s also important to pay attention to some warning signs like fatigue, dizziness and unnatural pain, as this can be your body’s way of telling you to take a break in exercising even for a bit.

While it’s important to keep your body fit and healthy, it’s also important that you perform your workout routines safely. Remember, getting a fit body is useless if you’ll get a permanent injury in return.
