Time Management for Gamers

For most gamers, it’s always a struggle to try to balance time between our favorite hobby and school or work. So what do we need to do to be able to enjoy both? After all, some of us work so we can sustain our hobbies. And one can certainly not skip school just to play. Some need an avenue to relieve stress, and that is what gaming is for, but the temptation to stay up all night or skip some days is so great.

Here are some tips that might help.

  1. Keep everything fun in what you’re doing. If gaming really is your passion, don’t look at your studies or your job as hindrances. Think of them as parts of a game and you’re the playable character. Unlike games, however, restarting in real life will not be easy if you make significant mistakes in your decision-making.

  1. Always keep your schedule in mind. It’s easier to plan ahead if you know what you need to do in a week, especially during your free time. There are no surprises ahead. Failing to prepare is like stumbling onto a dungeon boss without having enough health potions to get you through. Finish what you need to do early like homework and studying so you have more time for playing.

  1. Priorities should alwayscome first. If you’re a student, getting good grades should be your motivation. Think of getting good marks as a method of leveling up. If you’re a good student with excellent grades, you have more opportunities in the future. Think of opportunities as access to new missions and better equipment.

  1. Getting sick will keep you from gaming. You will have to skip some days for school or work if you get sick. Not having enough sleep and not eating right will lower your body’s natural defense system. Think of your immune system as your armor. You would not go into a fight without your best equipment right? So why go on living as if there’s no tomorrow. If you get sick often, chances are, you won’t get to play as much either.

  1. Gaming should motivate you. It’s quite alright to do what you love. That does not mean however that you should ignore other aspects of your life. Finishing your studies will allow you to look for jobs in the future, while getting a job will allow you to sustain your hobbies. The more things you can afford, the happier you will be. Gaming is an expensive hobby. You need a job to sustain it.

  1. Know the limits of your body. It is much easier for students to find a window in their schedule. For those who are already working, the weekends is the only option, not unless you’re willing to lose some sleep for late night gaming. This should be avoided as you will lose focus during the day. Sleep is also essential for health. Remember that a healthy gamer will have more time to play in the future.

Types of Toxic People You Will Meet in Your Life

Remember that people can either inspire you or drain you – you just need to choose wisely. Here in Singapore, you are not coerced into a relationship you do not want. Now the challenge really is how to choose your friends, colleagues and acquaintances wisely. You have to look closely and rid yourself of people that will drain you.

Toxic people will surely undermine your self-confidence and spread negativity. It is time that you look for positive stimuli in your life so you can survive this jungle. Do not shut off everyone completely. Here are the types of toxic people that you will meet in your life:

Those that are like sponges

There are those that are like sponges – absorbing all your time. This may be a friend or a colleague. They will repeatedly take hold of your time like robbers. They take everything and never returning anything. In any relationship, it should be give and take.

Those that criticize too often

There is nothing wrong if you get positive criticism at times but you have to be careful if that person is engaging in relentless criticism of you and other people. If you notice that the criticism is not at all constructive or positive, it is time that you leave that relationship.

Those that are negative thinkers

Life is a mix of positive and negative things but some people see everything negatively no matter the circumstance. You have to keep away from these people because negativity is like a contagious disease. You cannot just get “vaccinated” and live with it. If you are with these kinds of people, you will be dragged into the abyss.

Those that snap easily

It is normal that you will snap but there are others who snap easily and you should avoid them. Letting off their steam is important and they do not care who or when they will burst.

Those that do not show compassion

Friendship is nothing without compassion. If your friend do not show compassion, that is the time that you have to let it go. Compassion means lending an ear or understanding one’s problem and if your friend is short of compassion, you will be left holding everything.

Those who lie

You will have no normal conversation with a friend who lies. Dishonesty hurts more than anything else and it is time that you should avoid people who constantly lie to you to save their asses.

Now that you know the types of toxic people you will meet at some point in your life, it is up to you if you let them influence how you see life.

10 Things You Can Learn from Chronically Ill People

I have diabetes. My condition requires constant monitoring and a considerable part of my income goes to my food and medication. It’s not all bad though. Living with a chronic health problem such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis or lupus could teach people valuable lessons like:

daughter caring sick elderly mother

  1. Everyone fighting their own battles. Not all health problems have visible signs. That apparently healthy man who parked at a space reserved for the disabled? Maybe he’s not really a jerk, but has a heart condition that makes him easily fatigued.

  1. It’s harder for some people to be happy. If you continuously have to worry about your health, all while silently bearing its painful effects, you’d find it harder to keep a smile on your face too.

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. People with a chronic illness have limited energies, so over time they become good at attending to their priorities. They make the most of what they have and don’t bother about things that don’t really matter.

  1. Special treatment is nice, but being normal is better. Sick people are treated more nicely and are often better accommodated. But do you know what would be better than that? Being treated like a normal person – honestly and without being patronized – and being able to do everything you need by yourself.

  1. Most people take their health for granted. The Singapore Government has a good system for taking care of the sick and those and need. But if you’re chronically ill, you realize this could be made even better, and you become an advocate for health insurance and healthy living.
  2. affordable-care-act

  1. You have to enjoy what you have. If your maintenance medication already takes a third of your monthly income, you spend more wisely and learn to be satisfied with what possessions you already have.

  1. Problems can make you a better person. It’s true: what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. (Or at least it’s true psychologically). Battling a chronic health problem makes us more resilient to setbacks because we’re used to life being an uphill battle. We can shrug off some problems that would devastate other people.

  1. Some days are just not for you. Healthy people can have bad hair days. Chronically ill people have bad all body days. When that happens, we just try to find comfort in the fact that things will be better tomorrow.

  1. We can teach you how to take care of your body. We’re a one-man information drive and awareness program of our respective conditions. We spend long periods of time consulting with health professionals and we pass on the knowledge we get from them to our family and friends.

  1. Life’s what you make of it. Any serious health problem or a disability will force you to reevaluate your life and how you want to experience it. Would you just mope around and feel sorry for yourself? Or would you keep on giving it your best and just be thankful for what you have?

Too Much Information is a Lie

Most of the time, a person immediately defends himself when he is lying. Sometimes, he would state all unnecessary information that will make him more suspected. One of the most important signs that a person is lying is by listening at his statement.

Giving too many information indicates falseness. This is very common to all. Most of the time, it happens when you want to cover yourself to a deed that you have done. It is not a mistake if you give details to a person. You can even give him all the details that he wants to know as long as you don’t act as if you are too defensive.

It’s like answering a question that can be answerable by Yes or No. For example, “Have you dated last weekend?” You can simply say yes or no to that question.

Truth-and-Lies

Now, if your answer is like this: “Last weekend Rey and I go at gun shop and then go fishing. After that, we go to some massage center and eat at a famous restaurant in Jason St. At six o’clock we waited for Rey’s mother near the bridge at Cannington St. and after few hours of waiting, her mother doesn’t show up so we went home.”

There is something wrong with the person when he answer just like that. It’s something that can be simply determined. Answering like this is an indication that you are defending yourself when in the first place, you are only asked a very simple question and there is no need to elaborate.

The Truth is Hidden in a Lie

Sometimes, a person looks like lying but is stating the truth. How will you determine it? Simply tie all the information you have gathered from different sources and when you are done, you can determine who is saying the truth. The secret to know if a person is lying, is to also know what lie is.

A Sign of Anxiety

Eye contact is a very important factor when you are stating the truth. Like for example, when you are called by your teacher for an oral recitation. You do not know the answer. Basically, you will bow down your head and you cannot look straightforward to your teacher while answering. This indicates that you are dishonest.

Knowing Who’s Saying the Truth

Most of the time, confident students who know the answer do not mind if they have an eye contact or not as long as they answer fluently and it is correct. You will notice that a person who is telling the truth is calm and fluently giving you all the information that you want. However, when a person is lying there is a sign that his eyes will not directed to you.

Truths and Half-Truths

Yes, he is speaking every detail of an incident but he is only telling a half-baked truth because he does not do eye contact with you. Aside from eye contact, many people sweat more when they are lying and sometimes they are so bothered that they cannot work properly. If these happen to a person and it is not its usual attitude, he is giving a sign that he is deceiving.
